In 2017, a new look for the Triolet campus
Announced as part of the national “Campus Operation” plan, the “Science Village” and “Campus Heart” projects will transform the University of Montpellier.
Science Village: The Triolet Campus Gets a Makeover!
Two ultra-modern buildings, 13,000 m² dedicated to teaching, and a completely redesigned entrance—this is what the Triolet campus will look like in a few years. The first and main component of this project is a five-story complex housing tutorial and computer labs, lecture halls, as well as a spacious terrace and numerous student gathering spaces. Open and airy, the building is designed to embody the campus’s new identity and reinforce the university’s openness to the city. Just a few steps from the main building, another structure will be dedicated to the teaching of biology and ecology—two flagship academic programs at theUM.
Heart of the Campus: In 2017, a Large Urban University Park
Bringing together four university campuses within a 40-hectare area—that is the goal of this urban and landscape development project of unprecedented scale. In 2017, the Triolet campus will be integrated into a shared space for the University of Montpellier and Paul Valéry Montpellier 3 University. This campus will also include the La Motte Rouge university sports center and part of the new Balard Chemistry Hub. This new urban park will prioritize pedestrian traffic and sustainable modes of transportation. Campus life will also be at the heart of the project, with the renewal of street furniture, the creation of sports facilities, and new landscaping features… The goal of the “Cœur de Campus” project is to improve the quality of life and promote mobility for 35,000 users.
A major consultation process involving all these stakeholders was launched in October. This initial phase aims to identify needs and refine the project. Students of the “UM,” share your thoughts so we can imagine the new face of your campus together!
Montpellier’s “Operation Campus” initiative aims to revitalize and enhance existing campuses to create vibrant living spaces, bring together the major campuses, and increase their international visibility. Led by the Languedoc-Roussillon Universities COMUE, it represents a massive and targeted effort by the French government, in partnership with the Languedoc-Roussillon Region, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, and the City of Montpellier, to support higher education and the “ Research.”
