This week, Alexandre Dézé and Emmanuelle Reungoat, political science researchers at Cepel and authors of the book "Au nom du peuple", deconstruct the presuppositions surrounding populism. In the second half of the program, we focus on the next bar des sciences and its theme: "What is virility?

Hello and welcome to A LUM LA SCIENCE, the weekly program that brings you the latest scientific news from the laboratories of Muse, Montpellier's university of excellence.

As we enter 2022, I'd like to start by offering you my very best wishes and assure you that, as your President, I'll do everything in my power to ensure that they don't come true. With me, no more false promises, with me, " Everything becomes possible!

Do you want your health? I guarantee the immediate eradication of covid, cancer and eczema " whatever it takes".

You want security? I'll demand border closures after 1am, no more barriers and no more French passports without vaccinations.

You want happiness and love? I'll ban sadness and reopen nightclubs, churches and meetings as soon as possible, without gel, masks, shirts or pants.

You want the money? I promise to reduce the social divide by raising wages by at least 50%, and lowering labor costs by at least as much. The abolition of wealth tax and unemployment benefit.

You want ecology? I'll declare war on global warming and freeze our relationship with thermometers, because the time for change is now!

You want....

• What's populist? How populist! You don't care about populists? Do you know what populism is?
• No

And that's just as well, because our guests know exactly what populism is. Last November, they published a book entitled " Au nom du peuple" (In the name of the people ), in which they take up all the prejudices about populism in an attempt to better explain a concept that is increasingly used as a catch-all category. Joining us in the studio are Alexandre Dézé and Emmanuelle Reungoat.

In the second half of the show, Agnès Pesenti will join us to present the next edition of the Bar des sciences, which will take place on Thursday February 10 at 8:30 pm at the Dôme, on the theme: "What is virility?"
