Marine Biodiversity, Exploitation and Conservation (MARBEC)

MARBEC

The general objective of the UMR is to study the marine biodiversity of lagoon, coastal and offshore ecosystems at different levels of integration (molecular, individual, population and community), and the uses made of this biodiversity by man.

Relying on a variety of observation, experimentation, analysis and modeling tools, the unit more specifically addresses the following objectives:

  • describe marine biodiversity, understand its dynamics and the functioning of marine ecosystems ;
  • analyze the impact of anthropogenic pressures on these ecosystems and develop scenarios for responses to global change;
  • reconcile exploitation (especially fishing and aquaculture) and conservation, and meet societal expectations (expertise, innovation, remediation).
