Center for Structural Biology (CBS)

The overall aim of the CBS is to carry out research at the cutting edge of structural biology, biophysics and bioengineering to identify and characterize the fundamental mechanisms of life and their regulation, at different scales of time and space (from single molecules to living tissues and organisms) and using integrative approaches. We are particularly interested in understanding the molecular and physical determinants of these processes, using state-of-the-art methodologies. We believe that the answer to these objectives involves the study of the structure and dynamics of supramolecular assemblies at different scales, as well as a detailed understanding of their assembly and regulation mechanisms. Furthermore, our ambition is to study these processes in more integrated contexts such as living cells or model organisms. Where possible, we also exploit this knowledge to design new therapeutic strategies for human health and disease.
