Throw that mosquito!

  • Category: Call for Citizen Contributions
  • Dates: September 14–25, 2026
  • Location: Jardin des Plantes, Bois de Montmaur - Montpellier

In Montpellier, scientists from the IRD are inviting residents to participate in a major citizen science initiative from September 14 to 25. Using the Mosquito Alert app, anyone can help improve our understanding of the presence and diversity of mosquitoes in the city.

This operation complements a sampling campaign conducted by research teams in several green spaces in Montpellier as part of the Biodivecity project, which is part of the VECT OH initiative supported by the University of Montpellier.

Using mosquito traps, they monitor existing populations and track their changes. Observations reported by residents will help increase the number of monitoring sites and provide a better understanding of mosquito distribution citywide.

How can I participate?

Throughout the MosquitoBlitzzz event, from September 14 to 25, simply download the free Mosquito Alert app and help contribute to the digital inventory.

The principle is simple:

  1. Spot a mosquito in Montpellier
  2. Take a picture of it
  3. Share your sighting via the Mosquito Alert app

So, ready to join in?Swat that mosquito!
