This year, MO.CO. Montpellier Contemporain is presenting three exhibitions at its two art centers that explore the relationship between art and science. This theme resonates with the history of the city of Montpellier, which has played a major role in education, the dissemination of knowledge, and scientific research.

At MO.CO., Experiencing the Unknown brings together more than 100 works by some 30 artists, offering an open-ended and porous journey through materials, experiments, disciplines, and eras, in order to put reality—or what we know of it—to the test.

The artists featured in the exhibition Experiencing the Unknown sometimes have scientific backgrounds, while others have collaborated with scientists or are simply passionate about one of these fields. They share an interest in experimenting with the unknown by diverting scientific forms or processes.

The objects and specimens from the University of Montpellier collections on loan to this exhibition also highlight the power of the intersection of knowledge and forms, as well as the importance of historical markers.
