In Noiva, chandelier by Joana Vasconcelos (2005)
Photograph of the work on tarpaulin
From March 8 to 30, 2018
Richter site (outdoor display)

The Bride, 2001–2005

At first glance, it looks like a six-meter-high white chandelier. In reality, the sculpture is made up of some 25,000 tampons...
The creative process of Joana Vasconcelos is based on the decontextualization and subversion of pre-existing objects and everyday realities. The artist offers us a sympathetic yet critical view of contemporary society and statements of collective identity that refer, in particular, to the status of women.
