“Protect MADA – Marine Area in the District of Analalava” is a project led by six ecology students from the School of Science. It aims to establish a community-managed marine protected area (CMPA) on Nosy Lava Island, a threatened gem in northern Madagascar, and to foster exchanges between children from Montpellier and Madagascar.
“We traveled to the Analalava region, to the small island of Nosy Lava, and to a village in the heart of the mangrove forest called Bevoay. The welcome we received in Sakalava country—home to one of Madagascar’s many ethnic groups—was very warm and filled with unforgettable encounters. Over the course of two months, we had the chance to discover the island’s richness, but also the dangers threatening it: poaching, overfishing, poverty, deforestation, and more. Through this photo exhibition, we invite you to share in our incredible experience so that you, too, can discover the many facets of this ‘red island.’”
