Street science" exhibition

Launch of an augmented reality exhibition on the theme of symbiosis at Montpellier's Jardin des Plantes.

Street science is an invitation to take a geolocated stroll and discover symbiosis, or the shared, sustainable life of two organisms of different species, as we've never seen it before: in augmented reality!

The launch of this exhibition, presented by the University of Montpellier, will take place on Saturday July 2 at 10:30 a.m. in the Jardin des Plantes, where it will be open to the public all summer long.

Born in 2018 thanks to the support of the Institut de Research pour le Développement (IRD Sud-Est) and the Région Sud, the Street Science mobile app offers urban trail games in augmented reality, to discover - and learn - in a fun way.

In 2022, Street Science goes abroad and invites young and old (aged 8 and over) on an educational walk on the theme of symbiosis. The ten or so 3D models installed in Montpellier's Jardin des Plantes reveal the diversity of symbioses between organisms of different species.

This walkabout, which takes a playful approach to all facets of symbiosis, was created for the 10th Congress of the International Symbiosis Society and made possible thanks to the financial support of IDEXLYON and INSA Lyon. All the content was written in collaboration with researchers from the University of Lyon, the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, the Station Biologique de Roscoff and the University of Melbourne.

The application - and all its walks! - is free, and available on all download platforms. And for those who don't have the opportunity to visit Montpellier and its Jardin des Plantes, a special category of walks, entitled "Jouez partout", enables you to download everything you need to set up your own educational trail games, in the garden, at home, or in the playground of your school, college or lycée.
