AI, ethics and data: what level(s) of awareness?
Bring the 2025 edition of the Bar des Sciences to a close with the evening event: "AI, ethics and data: what level(s) of awareness?".

Artificial intelligence is already here, often discreet, but sometimes very visible. It is integrated into many aspects of our daily lives: geolocation, image recognition, data processing, text and image generation. It is profoundly transforming our lifestyles, and is making its mark in increasingly vast fields: health, the environment, language, scientific research, and many others.
But AI is no longer limited to the execution of automated tasks: it now raises major questions about our relationship to consciousness, creativity, responsibility and the choices we make as a society. In the short to medium term, how far can these technologies evolve? Can we imagine an AI capable of feeling, imagining, creating poetry, feeling empathy? Could it one day develop a form of consciousness? And beyond this dizzying question: are we fully aware of our practices with AI and their consequences?
This Science Bar invites you to explore these questions alongside specialists who will share their knowledge and exchange ideas with the public.
Mathieu LAFOURCADE: PhD in computer science and researcher at the Montpellier Laboratory of Computer Science, Robotics and Microelectronics (LIRMM - CNRS, Université de Montpellier and INRIA, Université Paul-Valery-Montpellier and UPVD). His research combines the fields of computer science, linguistics and AI, and currently focuses on the automatic processing of human languages and lexical semantics.
François SABOT: PhD in plant genomics at IRD's Diversité - Adaptation - Développement des plantes laboratory (DIADE - IRD, CIRAD and Université de Montpellier), and coordinator of IRD's artificial intelligence working group. His research focuses on the plant genome, its mechanism, structure and evolution, as well as on bioinformatics data analysis using AI.
Jérôme BERANGER: PhD in digital ethics, Ethics & AI expert for the EuropIA Institute, CEO of GoodAlgo and associate researcher in the BIOETHICS team at the Centre d'Epidémiologie et de Research en santé des POPulations (CERPOP - INSERM and Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse III). His research focuses on the moral and societal approach to the digital revolution. He also publishes scientific works on the subject. His latest: " Conscious AI is no longer a utopia! Il est encore temps de s'y préparer, 2024, De Boeck Supérieur".
The Bar des Sciences has become one of Montpellier's leading events for scientific culture, offering once a month, from January to June, a participatory debate on major scientific and societal issues. Come and discuss, debate and put your questions to the experts!
