Jean Jacques Moreau and the Birth of Non-Regular Mechanics
The MIPS Center for " Research " invites all members of its community—researchers, Professors, doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and research assistants—to come learn about the activities of its laboratories and platforms, and to discuss research, innovation, and technology transfer.

This lecture contextualizes Moreau’s contributions within the emergence and development of non-regular mechanics. In this regard, Moreau’s scientific career alone illustrates certain trends in scientific Research at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. Starting out as a “theoretical” fluid mechanic, Moreau was one of the founders of Convex Analysis, both in its most theoretical aspects and in its applications to Non-Smooth Mechanics. In this latter field, he devoted the end of his career to developing a powerful and elegant numerical tool: Contact Dynamics, better known in English as Non-Smooth Contact Dynamics.
