For 3.8 billion years, nature has been driving a process of evolutionary adaptation that has selected the most effective solutions—those that are most energy- and resource-efficient. Living organisms, through their forms and structures, materials and processes, organization, and ecosystems, serve as a tremendous source of inspiration for researchers and engineers.
Bio-inspired approaches have developed rapidly and can serve as a catalyst for sustainable innovation in many fields: natural resource management, bioremediation, agriculture, energy, medicine, computer science, robotics, green chemistry, nanotechnology, transportation, and construction. It is widely acknowledged that the current challenges facing humanity—particularly global change, biodiversity loss, habitat degradation, and pollution—require new approaches and new technologies.
Research into the ecology, evolution, and functional biology of animals, plants, and microorganisms can provide a wide range of potential avenues leading to new approaches, tools, and innovative technologies. Interdisciplinary collaboration between biologists, physicists, chemists, engineers, and physicians can foster a highly fruitful and symbiotic exchange of information, which can enrich each discipline and create something entirely new.
The scientific conference is intended for researchers, educators, students, local businesses, and other potential stakeholders, primarily from the scientific community in the fields of ecology and biodiversity, but it will also include and be open to researchers from other fields.
To ensure the event can proceed as smoothly as possible, it will take place at Agropolis Fondation, where only the speakers will be physically present, allowing for meaningful discussion. Due to venue capacity, we will not be able to accommodate an in-person audience, but the event will be streamed on the Labex Cemeb YouTube channel.
