Agropolis Scientific Days, Montpellier – Call for papers

  • Category: Scientific conferences
  • Dates: October 28–29, 2022
  • Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Location: Agropolis

From November 28, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. to November 29, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.

LabEx CEMEB is organizing two scientific days on November 28 and 29, 2022, on Ecosystem Services / Nature's Contribution to Humans (session 1 – November 28) and Nature-Based Solutions (session 2 – November 29), at Agropolis, Montpellier.

Session 2 – Nature-based solutions – November 29, 2022

The organizing committee invites you to submit project presentations (research work or achievements) that correspond to the concept of Nature-Based Solutions and can be carried out by research laboratories, companies, local authorities, institutions, or natural area managers in the Occitanie region.

Nature-based solutions (NBS) are defined by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as: "actions that protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural or modified ecosystems to directly address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, while ensuring human well-being and yielding benefits for biodiversity." Projects and initiatives therefore aim to seek a net benefit for biodiversity, while responding to societal challenges identified in the region: climate change mitigation and adaptation, natural risk prevention and reduction, health preservation and improvement, food security (through agroecology, for example), water supply, and/or socio-economic development (through the circular economy, for example)..

As the approach to developing projects on this theme is still emerging, the purpose of this call for papers is to identify projects and achievements in Occitanie that include a work and application component clearly corresponding to the above philosophy, without necessarily meeting all the criteria defined in the IUCN global standard.

The day (program currently being finalized) will feature introductory lectures presenting the concept of SFN (history, definitions, and research challenges, methodological approach to the IUCN global standard), exemplary research projects, emerging research projects, and achievements by stakeholders in Occitanie (local authorities, institutions, businesses, natural area managers).

Organizing committee: Xavier Le Roux, Martine Hossaert, Philippe Jarne, Alan Vergnes, Ophélie Ronce, Sophie Boutin, Gaëlle Mathieu-Hernande.
