The Challenges of High-Performance Computing in the Exascale Era with the Adastra Supercomputer: What Scientific Challenges Lie Ahead? All Aboard for a Journey to the Stars!

France has acquired a new supercomputer, Adastra, for scientific research, hosted at CINES. It ranks among the most powerful in the world, with a peak performance of over 75 PFlops/s, and is currently the most energy-efficient supercomputer in production. It thus provides French scientists with massive and innovative computing capabilities to meet their complex needs in numerical simulation.
To mark its inauguration, a symposium is being organized to highlight and discuss some of the scientific challenges that require such computing power.
Eight presentations will highlight examples of scientific challenges addressed using supercomputers. To conclude, a presentation by the Univers et Particules Laboratory in Montpellier—which is dedicated to exploring the universe, from its most fundamental constituents to its largest and oldest structures—will guide us on a journey from simulation to the stars!
