The Challenges of High-Performance Computing in the Exascale Era with the Adastra Supercomputer: What Scientific Challenges Lie Ahead? All Aboard for a Journey to the Stars!

France has acquired a new Adastra supercomputer for scientific research, housed at CINES, which ranks among the most powerful in the world with a peak performance of over 75 PFlops/s and is currently the most energy-efficient in production. It thus provides French scientists with massive and innovative computing capabilities to meet their complex needs for numerical simulation.
To mark its inauguration, a symposium is being held to highlight and discuss some of the scientific challenges that require such computing power.
Eight presentations will highlight examples of scientific challenges addressed using supercomputers. To conclude, a presentation by the Univers et Particules Laboratory in Montpellier—which is dedicated to exploring the universe, from its most fundamental constituents to its largest and oldest structures—will guide us on a journey from simulation to the stars!
