In this presentation, Françoise Berthoud will provide a brief overview of the direct environmental impacts of digital technology, then expand on the topic to discuss its indirect effects using specific examples. Her remarks will be illustrated by the interplay between lawmakers, industry leaders, governments, users, and others, and we will explore how this dynamic may—or may not—lead us toward solutions to environmental crises.

Françoise Berthoud is an expert on the environmental impacts of digital technology, co-creator ofthe Inria MOOC, andco-founder of the GDRéco-inforesearch group focused on these topics; she is an engineer and coach at the CNRS and the University of Grenoble Alpes.
