"UM : Science" [S06-ep01]: Green Education, the Education of Tomorrow
For this first episode of the new season, *A l’UM * explores the future of science with Sylvain Wagnon, a researcher at the Lirdef and author of the book *Green Education, Education of Tomorrow: In the Face of Climate Change, What If Education Were the Solution?* A program broadcast every Wednesday on the radio station Divergence.
The heat waves that have battered France since the beginning of summer may have had the merit of serving as a wake-up call for both politicians and citizens. Nature has reminded us in a scathing way just how presumptuous it is to think we can control and own it. Climate change is underway, and, unfortunately for us, it’s moving faster than we thought.
Given this reality, it is urgent that we rethink our relationship with the world and with others. The values of profit and exploitation must give way to solidarity and mutual aid. But how can we dismantle five centuries of domination and anthropocentrism?
Through education and teaching—and the task ahead is immense. It is nothing less than shaping a new generation of individuals who are aware of the world they inhabit and the people with whom they share it. COP 28 reached the same conclusion: education is the only long-term solution to the climate crisis. And small adjustments will no longer suffice; the time has come for a true educational revolution.
To bring this new social contract to light, we invite you to delve into the musings of another wanderer who is becoming less and less solitary: Sylvain Wagnon, a researcher at Lirdef—the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Research in Didactics, Education, and Training—who has published the book Green Education, Education of Tomorrow.
