Charm-EU: A summer school and conference focused on Europe

The University of Montpellier is hosting the first summer school for doctoral researchers the Charm-EU alliance of European universities. As part of this event, the international conference “Connecting Knowledge, Shaping Futures: Transdisciplinarity in Research,” scheduled for June 24, 2025, will feature a series of inspiring presentations by researchers from nine prestigious European universities.

From June 23 to 27, 2025, 26 doctoral researchers will gather in Montpellier for the doctoral researchers Summer School for doctoral researchers . This inaugural edition will focus on Europe and transdisciplinarity. This summer school offers participants from various disciplines the opportunity to work together on developing a transdisciplinary research project, guided by experienced researchers. The program includes numerous collaborative workshops.

Transdisciplinarity is driving research forward

Also, on Tuesday, June 24: a one-day international conference titled “Bridging minds, shaping futures: transdisciplinarity in research,” which can be attended in person or online. Nine experts, nine European universities, nine research themes… This conference offers a non-exhaustive yet inspiring overview of projects within the universities of the European Charm-EU alliance. The invited international speakers are leading researchers who have placed transdisciplinarity at the heart of their work. They share a commitment to excellence in research and a deep dedication to contributing to a more sustainable society. Their fields of expertise are vast: philosophy, law, physics, hydrogeology, epidemiology, medicine… Giving them a platform is an opportunity to demonstrate that transdisciplinarity can drive research forward. A tremendous source of inspiration to fuel the research of tomorrow.

The opening of this conference, attended by Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, will also provide an opportunity for the University of Montpellier to honor the winners of the 2024 Interdisciplinary Thesis Awards from the University of Montpellier’s Doctoral College.

UM at the Heart of Europe with Charm-EU

Launched in 2019 as part of the first Erasmus+ call for proposals for European Universities, Charm-EU is an alliance of nine prestigious European universities that aims to develop a shared innovative model to enhance the quality, international competitiveness, and appeal of European higher education. The Charm-EU alliance currently comprises: the University of Barcelona (Spain), Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), Utrecht University (Netherlands), Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary), the University of Montpellier (France), Åbo Akademi University (Finland), the University of Würzburg (Germany), Ruhr-West University of Applied Sciences (Germany), and the University of Bergen (Norway).
