UM Its Commitment to the AFM-Telethon
On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the University of Montpellier, the Montpellier University Hospital, the Montpellier-Nîmes School of Medicine, and AFM-Téléthon signed a five-year strategic partnership aimed at strengthening their collaboration to support people living with rare diseases, particularly neuromuscular disorders. This agreement aims to accelerate research, promote access to innovative therapies, improve diagnosis, and strengthen support for patients and their families.
As a major player in health education, research, and innovation, the University of Montpellier will leverage its expertise in biomedical research and its network of research units jointly supervised with Inserm, the CNRS, and other national organizations to develop new therapeutic approaches. This collaboration will also promote the development of translational research projects, the training of future healthcare professionals, and the translation of scientific discoveries into patient care.
“The signing of this partnership reflects a shared ambition: to strengthen synergies between the hospital sector, academic research, and the nonprofit sector in support of people living with rare diseases,” said Philippe Augé, president of the University of Montpellier. “It fully illustrates our University’s commitment to excellence in research addressing major public health challenges.”
The partnership will focus on several priority areas, including the development of research projects and clinical trials, expanded access to innovative treatments, and enhanced patient support. It builds on a long-standing collaboration between the partners, particularly through the MYOccitanie research cluster—which focuses on neuromuscular diseases and brings together researchers and clinicians for collaborative projects.
