Inauguration of the “Alexander Grothendieck” Plaza

Michaël DELAFOSSE, President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole and Mayor of Montpellier; Philippe AUGÉ, President of the University of Montpellier; Jean-Michel MARIN, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences; and Cédric VILLANI, Fields Medalist (2010), inaugurated the Alexandre Grothendieck Plaza in front of the Triolet campus.

Alexandre Grothendieck was the founder of modern algebraic geometry and, as many of his peers called him, the greatest mathematician of the 20th century; he transformed the landscape of mathematics, and this plaza pays tribute to him.

19th Primavera Festival

Doors open at 3:00 p.m. with coffee served in the Pasteur Foyer.
The formal ceremony begins at 4:00 p.m., featuring speeches by officials, the presentation of interdisciplinary awards, and the ceremony organized by doctoral schools, and will continue until 6:30 p.m.

After the graduation ceremony, the traditional tossing of caps took place on the Corum plaza. The procession of doctoral students then made its way to the Jardin des Plantes, passing through Place de la Comédie and the Arc de Triomphe.

At the end of the day, starting at 7:30 p.m., the exhibition “Portraits of Doctoral Students” gave visitors the opportunity to meet several young doctoral candidates who successfully defended their dissertations during the 2021–2022 academic year. The exhibition will be on view in the presence of illustrator Elsa Gabet and photographer Gabriel Fradin.
