Summer tours return to the Jardin des Plantes

For nearly 10 years, the team at the University of Montpellier’s Botanical Garden has been inviting the public to join them for guided tours centered on specific themes. Open to everyone and free of charge, visitors are welcome from June 18 to September 5, 2024, in an intimate setting. These tours allow the general public to come discover the garden and interact directly with the staff during group tours on set dates.

A cultural, educational, and fun event

Each tour takes place at one of the Jardin des Plantes’ iconic locations. These tours offer visitors the opportunity to learn more about a variety of fun, practical, or cultural topics.

A tour typically lasts 1.5 hours. We strongly recommend that you bring a bottle of water and a hat. Although no advance registration is required, please meet 10 minutes early at the garden’s main entrance on Boulevard Henri IV. The recommended minimum age is 12, as the tour may cover fairly advanced topics related to the environment, climate, or biodiversity. These tours are conducted in French and are completely free. At the start of the tour, please let the guide know if standing for extended periods is difficult for you.

The Jardin des Plantes is the oldest jewel in the Faculty of Medicine’s heritage. More than four centuries of shared history have continuously linked these two institutions. Established by Henry IV in 1593, the 46,460-square-meter garden is home to more than 4,000 species of plants in the open air, including 760 trees and 1,000 species of plants in greenhouses.
