Since 2020, the “capacity building” program—an initiative led by the University Innovation Hub (PUI)—has been offered to all staff (administrative staff, doctoral students, and researchers) at PUI partner institutions. This targeted training program in innovation and research commercialization aims to strengthen the skills of participants involved in supporting or developing innovative projects. Objectives of the “Capacity Building” Program The Capacity Building program is part of the Montpellier PUI’s strategy, offering sessions led by experts in innovation for staff involved in supporting and developing innovative projects in the Montpellier region. Through one or more modules, it will enable each participant to learn or reinforce key concepts in innovation (intellectual property, negotiation, product or service development, funding for collaborative research, public speaking, etc.). Why participate in “Capacity Building”? To acquire or strengthen skills in innovation and the commercialization of research; To learn about the concepts and challenges involved in further developing your innovative project; To meet experts in innovation and create synergies; A flexible training program that allows you to choose which modules to take or explore in greater depth based on your needs. Eligibility Requirements: Be employed by a PUI partner organization and involved in innovation initiatives, whether as administrative staff, a doctoral candidate, a postdoctoral fellow ( Professor), a faculty member, or a researcher; or be the lead on a project supported by the PUI (prior to starting a business). Training Topics: Negotiation: acquire negotiation techniques in the context of research partnerships and innovative projects. Intellectual Property: understand the rights and principles of protection in order to define a protection and commercialization strategy tailored to your project and market. Public Speaking: acquire the skills needed to structure and effectively present an innovative project to a target audience. Bringing Medical Devices or Drugs to Market: understand the key stages of development and master the regulatory, technical, and financial aspects of developing a medical or digital device. As part of the University Innovation Hub (PUI), thematic workshops to raise awareness of the Joint Laboratories—known as “LabCom”—are offered to administrative staff, researchers at the Montpellier PUI, and stakeholders from the socio-economic sector. The goal of these joint laboratories is to facilitate research collaborations between a research laboratory and a startup, an SME, or a mid-sized company. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-jszznz3gw Led by partnership and commercialization officers from the Montpellier PUI, the workshops—offered as webinars—are followed by personalized meetings to assist each participant in establishing connections and/or preparing their application. WHAT THE WORKSHOP OFFERS Explore the various LabCom models and support their development through the Companies and Campus initiative; Identify the legal, organizational, governance, and intellectual property issues associated with creating a LabCom; prepare the funding application, formalize mutual commitments, and define operating procedures; meet with stakeholders in the ecosystem and develop new opportunities for research collaboration. PROGRAM FLOW registration opens for the webinar; participation in the workshop: introduction to funding programs and their eligibility criteria; individualized support, tailored to identified needs, provided by program managers from the Montpellier PUI’s partnership and commercialization departments; project follow-up. KEY FIGURES 370 registrants across all webinars; 90 participants per session; €4.3 million in funding secured by project leaders; 12 LabCom projects funded by the ANR since 2020; 2 ANR Industrial Chair projects secured since 2024.
