Oriol Amat is a professor of economics at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, where he also served as rector. He is considered an expert in financial accounting, management accounting, and corporate fraud. On September 20, the University of Montpellier was pleased to award him an honorary doctorate.

A world-renowned researcher in the field of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), Michel Bouvier has contributed to numerous fundamental and therapeutic discoveries regarding these proteins, which are the targets of more than 30% of the drugs on the market. Many researchers from Montpellier were trained by the professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal. In 2023, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Montpellier.

A leading figure in paleontology, Colombian scientist Carlos Jaramillo specializes in the evolution of Amazonian-Andean ecosystems over the past 120 million years. The researcher at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute has, in particular, shed light on the origins of the region’s rich biodiversity.

To contribute to the development and international visibility of a Center of Research for Biodiversity Research in Portugal by sharing the expertise and knowledge available in Montpellier.  The BIOPOLIS project, funded under Phase 2 of the European H2020 Teaming program, aims to transform the CIBIO research laboratory in Porto into a Center of Excellence for Research, Development, and Innovation in the fields of biodiversity, agrobiodiversity, and ecosystem services. The project is based on skills transfer and capacity building. In other words, the partners must support the BIOPOLIS research center in its development, overall operations, and R&D&I activities. The University of Montpellier is a project partner alongside the Portuguese research center CIBIO and the Porto Business School. BIOPOLIS is receiving 15 million euros in funding over seven years from the European H2020 Teaming program, which aims to develop so-called “less advanced” regions—in this case, northern Portugal—with guidance and support from other so-called “more advanced” regions, in this instance France. It focuses on bioinformatics and population genomics to study crops, with an emphasis on domestication and adaptation. It includes a one-week in-person session at CIRAD from March 4 to 8, featuring presentations, hands-on sessions, and mini-research projects on introgression between rice cultivars. L’alliance d’universités Charm-EU propose depuis 2021 un master’s degree, transdisciplinaire et international, sur la thématique de la durabilité. La nouvelle version de ce diplôme conjoint permet aux futures étudiantes et étudiants de suivre un enseignement commun aux neuf universités partenaires de Charm-EU au sein d’un véritable campus européen interconnecté. Résolument transdisciplinaire, cette formation inédite enseignée en anglais de quatre semestres (120 ECTS) s’adresse aux titulaires d’un diplôme de niveau licence, quelle qu’en soit la discipline, qui souhaitent acquérir des connaissances avancées en matière de développement durable et relever les défis sociétaux mondiaux. Particulièrement innovant, son modèle pédagogique permet aux étudiantes et étudiants de devenir des « managers de la complexité » pour imaginer et piloter des projets en lien avec des défis de société liés à l’eau, à l’alimentation, à la santé et aux sciences du vivant ou encore à l’énergie et aux villes durables. Une collaboration entre 9 universités prestigieuses Dans sa nouvelle version, ouverte aux inscriptions le 15 janvier 2026, ce diplôme européen est délivré conjointement par neuf universités membres de l’alliance  Charm-EU : l’Université de Barcelone  (Espagne), Trinity College Dublin (Irlande), l’Université d’Utrecht (Pays-Bas), l’Université Eötvös Loránd de Budapest(Hongrie), l’Université de Montpellier, l'Université d’Åbo Akademi (Finlande), l'Université de Würzburg (Allemagne), l'Université des sciences appliquées de la Ruhr-West (Allemagne), l'Université de Bergen (Norvège). Un campus européen interconnecté Ce diplôme se déroule sur deux ans, soit quatre semestres, et offre de nombreuses opportunités de mobilité qui permettent d’étudier dans plusieurs universités partenaires durant la formation. A noter qu’au moins une mobilité d’un semestre dans une des universités de l’alliance est obligatoire. Hybride, l’enseignement est réalisé de façon synchrone par des équipes d’enseignantes et d’enseignants des neuf institutions internationales. Un modèle pédagogique unique Le diplôme “Global challenges for sustainability” (Défis globaux pour le développement durable) est centré sur les étudiantes et étudiants qui deviennent ainsi acteurs de leur apprentissage. Basé sur la résolution de problèmes authentiques et concrets, ce programme offre l’opportunité aux étudiantes et étudiants de travailler en lien avec des pairs internationaux et des acteurs de la société civile sur la résolution de problématiques sociétales complexes en lien avec le développement durable. Il met également en place une méthode d’évaluation innovante par compétences, avec un accompagnement individuel par un mentor tout au long du cursus et des retours réguliers sur les résultats et les moyens à mettre en œuvre pour progresser. Qui peut faire cette formation ? La formation étant transdisciplinaire, tous les profils sont les bienvenus. Les admissions sont ouvertes aux étudiants titulaires d’une licence, quelle qu’en soit la discipline. Il sera demandé au candidat de justifier d’un niveau C1 en anglais au début de la formation en septembre 2026. A savoir que ce diplôme est reconnu en France comme un diplôme d’établissement conférent grade de master. Frais d’inscription ? The University of Montpellier and the CHARM-EU Alliance Since 2019, the University of Montpellier has been a member of the European CHARM-EU Alliance, alongside eight partner universities across Europe.
