“The Origins of Botanical Gardens: Padua–Montpellier”
This event has already taken place!
The Friends of the Montpellier Jardin des Plantes Association is paying tribute to the world’s first botanical garden by hosting an exhibition on the Orto Botanico di Padova from June 2 to 10, 2023, at the Orangerie of the Montpellier Jardin des Plantes: “The Origins of Botanical Gardens! Padua – Montpellier.”
A remarkable garden created in 1545, it served as a model for all botanical gardens and remains a source of inspiration. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, it is constantly evolving. The creation of greenhouses dedicated to biodiversity in 2013 has strengthened scientific, educational, and outreach activities focused on the relationship between nature and humankind. The Botanical Museum has just opened its doors.
