Conceived in partnership between the University of Montpellier, the Montpellier School of Fine Arts, and Newcastle University, this international exhibition brings together scientific objects from university collections and works of contemporary art. Ancient drawings from the Atger Museum, three-dimensional models of floral skeletons, educational models by Dr. Auzoux, objects from anatomical collections, and herbarium specimens are revealed here as sources of inspiration for today’s artistic creation: the imagination of a dozen artists selected by curator Alistair Robinson invites us to reevaluate the meaning and aesthetics of these university objects.
Every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., the students in 2e Students from the Montpellier School of Fine Arts are inviting the public to join them in conjunction with the exhibition to present their works, created as part of their “Before And After Science” course.
The exhibition will also be accompanied by a symposium to be held at La Panacée on May 16 and 17, with the aim of bridging the gap between scientific research and artistic practice, and exploring their respective creative processes (more information).
