Description
Embroidery at the university as part of Women’s History Month—now that’s surprising!
And yet, embroidery—which is making a splash in contemporary art—hasn’t always been a feminine pastime.
So, women and men alike, eager to challenge preconceived notions and gender stereotypes, come contribute your own stitch—whether clumsy or expert—to create a collective map of real and ideal equality under the watchful eye of artist Hélène Duclos.
To participate in this collaborative project, bring a plain, unlined garment!
Examples: men’s or women’s underwear, tights, leggings, socks, T-shirts, tank tops, shirts, blouses, aprons, ties, scarves… Preferably black, white, ecru, gray, green, red, blue, or yellow. No purple, mauve, or brown.
Please note: you will not be able to retrieve your garment, as it will become an integral part of the final artwork.
