Description

Embroidery at the university as part of Women’s History Month—now that’s something to make you scratch your head!
And yet, embroidery—which has burst onto the contemporary art scene—hasn’t always been a women’s pastime.
So, women and men—anyone eager to challenge preconceived notions and gender stereotypes—come contribute your stitching, whether clumsy or expert, to create a collective map of real and ideal equality under the watchful eye of artist Hélène Duclos.
To participate in this collaborative artwork, bring a plain, unlined garment!
Examples: men’s or women’s underwear, tights, leggings, socks, T-shirts, tank tops, shirts, blouses, aprons, ties, scarves… Preferably black, white, ecru, gray, green, red, blue, or yellow. No purple, mauve, or brown.
Please note: You will not be able to retrieve your garment, as it will become an integral part of the final artwork.
