Personalized medicine, or precision medicine, involves tailoring treatments to the characteristics of individual patients and their diseases. The practical benefits are numerous, since it means moving from ready-to-wear - or standard treatment - to made-to-measure, determined according to the patient's genetic and environmental profile.

The definition of personalized medicine thus refers to the ability provided by genomic tools to choose a treatment for a given patient based on his or her individual characteristics. It means being able to classify each patient into a sub-population that differs in its susceptibility to a particular disease, or in its response to a given treatment.

This science-society debate, part of the Pint of Science will be hosted by :

  • Alain Thierry - INSERM Research Director at the Institut de Research en Cancérologie de Montpellier IRCM) - Research integrated for personalized medicine in digestive oncology;
  • Isabelle Touitou - Professor at the Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Biotherapies. Head of the Rare and Autoinflammatory Diseases Laboratory.

The evening will be translated into French sign language.
