Personalized medicine, or precision medicine, involves tailoring treatments to the specific characteristics of patients and their conditions. The practical benefits are numerous, as this approach shifts from a “one-size-fits-all” approach—or standard treatment—to a customized approach based on the patient’s genetic and environmental profile.

The definition of personalized medicine thus refers to the ability provided by genomic tools to select a treatment for a specific patient based on their individual characteristics. It involves the ability to classify each patient into a subpopulation that differs in terms of susceptibility to a particular disease or response to a given treatment, which is a significant aid in treatment selection.

This science-society debate, which is part of Pint of Science will be moderated by:

  • Alain Thierry – INSERM Research Director at the Montpellier Research Institute (IRCM) – Research for personalized medicine in gastrointestinal oncology;
  • Isabelle Touitou – Professor at the Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Biotherapies. Head of the Rare and Autoinflammatory Diseases Laboratory.

The event will feature French Sign Language interpretation.
