The aim of this symposium is to address the issue of farm business difficulties. It brings together University of Montpellier Private Law Laboratorythe Labex Entreprendre and the University of Montpellier.
Farming has a number of specific features, notably linked to the time required to exploit an animal or plant biological cycle, or to the structure of the debt. As a result, legislators and practitioners have had to adapt insolvency law to these particularities.

A new and vital subject

The rules applicable to farm businesses in difficulty are still relatively unknown to academics, legal professionals and even the players in the agricultural sector themselves. To date, no comprehensive academic work has been carried out in this field since 1994. Only a few practitioners are truly specialized in the field. Agricultural circles are virtually unaware of the existence of preventive procedures.
By filling this gap, this symposium meets a real need and brings the issue of farm business difficulties to the fore.
