Faculty of Education, Lecture Hall H, Montpellier
Lecture led by Brigitte Louichon, professor of French language and literature at the Faculty of Education, University of Montpellier.
"But why teach literature in elementary school?"
For two centuries, literature aimed at children, whether or not it is specifically "children's literature," has been rich in masterpieces. It constitutes a universe where themes, characters, situations, and images constantly interact. This imaginary world complements the real world and allows us to better understand it.
But in the digital and multimedia age, when there is so much knowledge to acquire, skills to build, and abilities to develop, why should children still be made to read? What purpose does it serve today?
This lecture is intended for the general public. It will highlight the issues surrounding this subject in light of current challenges and show what happens in literature classes.
