Claire Daien and Ariane Sultan

Lecture by Dr Claire Daien, rheumatologist, and Dr Ariane Sultan, endocrinologist.
The development of inflammatory rheumatism can be explained by a combination of genetic susceptibility and environmental factors. However, the exact causes of inflammatory rheumatism remain to be determined.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the importance of diet in human biological functions. The effect of diet on inflammatory rheumatism is often mentioned, but remains highly controversial.
This conference for the general public will be hosted by :

  • Claire Daien, Doctor of Medicine and Science, University Hospital Practitioner in Rheumatology at Montpellier University Hospital;
  • Ariane Sultan, Doctor of Medicine and Science, hospital practitioner and University Professor of Endocrinology-Diabetes-Nutrition

It aims to :

  • explain how diet can modulate the immune system and, theoretically, inflammatory rheumatism;
  • present the available human data on the impact of diet on inflammatory rheumatism.

It includes a discussion of the limitations of the studies and the dietary recommendations that can currently be given to patients with inflammatory rheumatism.

UM Thursdays": a new lecture series

The University of Montpellier, with its eight Faculties, two Schools and 6 Institutes, is bursting at the seams with teachers and researchers in a wide variety of fields. It wanted to highlight them and make them accessible to as many people as possible by offering a new cycle of lectures at the rate of one appointment per month from October 2017 to May 2018.
