The next event in the 2019 series of "Thursday Lectures" will be hosted by Dominique Bernard, senior lecturer at the University of Rennes 1, and Audrey Théron, museum collections manager at the Historical Heritage Department of the University of Montpellier.

This lecture offers a journey to Brittany to discover the scientific collections of the Faculty of Sciences of Rennes (1840-1900) through the work of Dominique Bernard, senior lecturer at the University of Rennes 1.

Grab your umbrella, it's going to rain lots of stories, big and small, about science and technology!

If the names Heron of Alexandria, Abbé Rochon, François Arago, Félix Dujardin, Faustino Malaguti, and Auguste Morren mean nothing to you, it's time to tackle the book Un trésor scientifique redécouvert (A Rediscovered Scientific Treasure). The collection of scientific instruments at the Faculty of Sciences in Rennes (1840-1900) written by Dominique Bernard, retired (but very active) lecturer at the University of Rennes 1 and published by Rennes en sciences.

Throughout the 255 pages of his book, the author describes the history of the Faculty of Sciences in Rennes since its creation and its collections of scientific instruments, particularly the inventions of Léon Foucault, Pierre, Jacques, and Marie Curie, and Pierre Weiss, all accompanied by photographs, archives, and humorous drawings by Nono. The author will present this educational and entertaining book during the conference.

Alongside him is Audrey Théron, museum collections manager at the Historical Heritage Department of the University of Montpellier, who crossed paths with Dominique Bernard at PATSTEC mission meetings. This is precisely what our collection manager will be presenting, introducing you to this mission with its strange name. Preserving contemporary scientific and technical heritage in a university: why? How? Supported by the Musée des Arts et Métiers (CNAM) in Paris and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, this program aims to preserve the memory of a little-known heritage.

Two perspectives, two universities with a single goal: to remember the evolution of science and technology.
