Of Land and Water
A day of discussions bringing together science, regional development, and the arts to explore the livability of the Grands Causses.
The Millau and Grands Causses Museum (MUMIG) is organizing a study day on Saturday, April 11, 2026, followed by an evening event open to the public titled *De Terre et d’Eau*, as part of the *À la lisière des mondes* series.
This event brings together scientific, anthropological, and cultural perspectives to explore the relationship between human societies and natural environments in the Grands Causses, a region that epitomizes the interactions between water, rock, and human activities.
On this occasion, researchers from the Montpellier Geosciences Laboratory (University of Montpellier / CNRS), who are involved in the activities of the Research Environmental Research Observatory (OREME), will participate in the discussions to provide a geoscientific perspective on the region’s environmental dynamics.
Among the project leaders, Philippe Vernant, a geophysicist, and Cédric Champollion, a hydrogeologist—both researchers at the Montpellier Geosciences Laboratory (University of Montpellier / CNRS)—will provide a geoscientific perspective on the interactions between geological processes, water resources, and the habitability of the Grands Causses region.
A dialogue between science and society
Since 2023, the museum has been collaborating on research related to these topics with anthropologist Nastassja Martin, who holds the CNRS Junior Professorship in Earth Habitability and Just Transitions (ISJPS – Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University).
The event on April 11 will explore the connections between land, water, and society by bringing together different disciplines and engaging the public in dialogue.
A day followed by an evening open to everyone
The event will take place in two parts:
- Workshop
Meetings and discussions bringing together researchers, cultural stakeholders, and local experts to address environmental and societal issues related to the Grands Causses region.
- Public Event
A discussion session open to everyone to further the conversation and share knowledge with the public.
Registration and reservation required: or 05 65 59 01 08.
