Understanding Prejudice: The Mechanisms of Hate and Rejection

Opening remarks by Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier.

Speakers:

• Christèle Fraïssé, associate professor of social psychology;
• Maras, rapper and slam poet, runner-up in the World Freestyle Rap Championship (2016) and French slam champion (2014).

In France, one in five students witnesses LGBT+phobic slurs. Why? What are the roots of this hatred? Can we really call it a phobia? The lecture will address these key questions to help us better understand how our society breeds discrimination and violence.

The event will conclude with an impromptu rap summary, followed by a rap and beatbox concert. It’s an original and powerful way to illustrate this theme, all while enjoying a rainbow-colored buffet.
