Exhibition: “Strange Animals?”

Exhibition by Rosa Mourlam, a scientist-artist, and Maëva Orliac, a paleontologist at ISEM.

Just as a scientist’s study of extinct specimens is inseparable from the illustrations that bring them to life, Rosa Mourlam set out to depict the creatures that inhabited southwestern France more than 20 million years ago, long before the appearance of humans.

“At that time, Europe was home to strange animals—some small, some large, some adorable, some frightening—relatives of species we are familiar with today, or species that have gone extinct without leaving any descendants. Through an artistic and scientific lens, you can come and discover these animals of the past and their environment.”
