On May 22, 2026, the University of Montpellier will open its doors for an educational event for schoolchildren and a public evening of scientific exploration open to the general public.

To mark Nature Day 2026, the University of Montpellier will host a day of activities for schoolchildren, followed by an immersive evening event for the general public featuring a guided tour and a scientific documentary—highlights open to everyone offering a fresh perspective on science.

Scientific collaboration for the benefit of all

On this day, researchers, Professors, students, and staff come together to:

  • share knowledge derived from scientific research,
  • promote local initiatives to support biodiversity,
  • encourage civic engagement and participation.

While the day will be dedicated to school groups, the evening will be the highlight of the event, open to everyone. Residents, curious visitors, nature lovers, and members of the public are invited to enjoy a unique scientific and cultural experience.

5:00 PM – 6:15 PM | Guided tour of the Jardin des Plantes

A guided tour through the heart of an exceptional botanical heritage.

Explore the plant collections, the garden’s history, and its current scientific role in the conservation and study of biodiversity.

6:30 PM – 9:30 PM | Film screening and discussion: nature, water, and global knowledge

The evening will feature a screening of the film:

“Mamody, the Last Baobab Digger” by Cyrille Cornu, followed by a special discussion with the director—himself a scientist—Cyrille Cornu (CIRAD) and researcher Jean Albergel (IRD).

Theme: Baobabs, Water, and Local Knowledge: Living and Adapting to Climate Change

Through the eyes of a baobab digger in Madagascar, the film explores the connections between traditional knowledge, natural resources, and adaptation to climate change.
