Introduction to Wikidata
Created in 2012, Wikidata is the free and collaborative knowledge base for the Wikimedia ecosystem. It collects and organizes data on 123 million topics to make it reusable, interoperable, and accessible on a global scale. However, its functionality and its potential for research, open science, and the dissemination of knowledge remain largely unknown in the academic world.
As part of the Wikimedia residency at the University of Montpellier, this webinar offers an introduction to Wikidata for doctoral students, researchers, Professors , and staff in higher education and research.
During this session, we will explore how Wikidata works, its data model, and its role within the Wikimedia ecosystem and the Web of Data in general. We will discuss how scientific information, publications, researchers, laboratories, and research projects can be represented and linked within Wikidata. We’ll also explore how to contribute to Wikidata, enrich existing data, and promote scientific output within an open and collaborative framework.
No prior experience is necessary. This webinar is open to anyone interested in data, as well as in opportunities for the visibility, reuse, and interconnection of scientific information.
