Secularism for a better life together?

The University of Montpellier is organizing a round table discussion on December 12 from 5 to 7 pm at the Faculty of Education, as part of Secularism Week. Hosted by journalist Mélanie Charpentier, with the participation of Gwénaële Calvès, Philippe Portier and Jean-Paul Udave, the event will be introduced by videos of students presenting their views on secularism. The speakers will comment on and analyze these points of view, highlighting the inclusive dimension of laïcité.

The event is part of the university's ongoing commitment to defending republican values and promoting secularism.

The round table will be followed by a buffet.

Speakers:

  • Gwénaële Calvès: professor of public law at the University of Cergy-Pontoise, specializing in secular issues and public law.
  • Philippe Portier: political scientist and director of studies at the École Pratique des Hautes Études, expert in the sociology of religion and secularism.
  • Jean-Paul Udave: secular referent at the University of Montpellier.
