Does secularism help us live together better?
This event has already taken place!
The University of Montpellier is hosting a roundtable discussion on December 12 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Faculty of Education, as part of Secularism Week. This event, moderated by journalist Mélanie Charpentier and featuring Gwénaële Calvès, Philippe Portier, and Jean-Paul Udave, will begin with videos of students presenting their views on secularism. The panelists will respond by commenting on and analyzing these perspectives and highlighting the inclusive nature of secularism.

This event is part of the university’s ongoing commitment to upholding republican values and promoting secularism.
The roundtable discussion will be followed by a buffet.
Speakers:
- Gwénaële Calvès: Professor of Public Law at the University of Cergy-Pontoise, specializing in issues of secularism and public law.
- Philippe Portier: political scientist and director of studies at the École Pratique des Hautes Études, an expert in the sociology of religion and secularism.
- Jean-Paul Udave: Secularism Coordinator at the University of Montpellier.
