“The Financial Health of Occitanie’s Departments as Budget Votes Approach”

Perspectives from the Occitanie Regional Audit Office, the University of Montpellier, and INSEE Occitanie.

The University of Montpellier and the Occitanie Regional Audit Office are hosting a new joint event as part of the partnership they have maintained since July 3, 2024.  This roundtable discussion, open to students at the University of Montpellier as well as the general public (free, registration required), will be held at the Faculty of Law and Political Science in Montpellier and will focus on the Occitanie Regional Audit Office’s (CRC Occitanie) regional thematic report on “The Financial Situation of the Departments in the Occitanie Region.”

Following the opening remarks by Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, speakers will include Valérie Renet, President of the Occitanie Regional Audit Office; Alexandre Gautier, Director of INSEE Occitanie; and Nicolas Marty, Vice President of the University of Montpellier and Director of the Institute for Preparation for General Administration (IPAG). The discussions—which will bring together diverse perspectives and research—will focus in particular on the departments’ vulnerability to economic conditions, their funding model, social spending, as well as their mandatory, shared, and optional responsibilities.
