Launch of “Street Science: A Greener City!”
This event has already taken place!
The University of Montpellier is offering a new science-themed walking tour where visitors can explore, play, and learn on May 24, 2023, with the launch of the exhibition“Street Science: A Greener City!”
The exhibition runs from May 24, 2023, to October 19, 2023
"Street Science: A Greener City!" is a science-themed walking tour that tackles a critical issue of our time: making cities greener. It invites participants to explore the challenges and benefits of a greener city for well-being, health, urban biodiversity, combating heat islands, water management, and urban agriculture.
It also prompts us to consider the choices we must make regarding the tree species we use, so that a greener city does not become a place where allergies and vector-borne infectious diseases are more common. This scientific tour, full of surprises, is open to everyone and available free of charge at the Jardin des Plantes in Montpellier.
This exhibition allows visitors of all ages to:
- visit the Montpellier Botanical Garden;
- play by searching for signs and images that will reveal their secrets through augmented reality using a smartphone and the Street Science app;
- Learn about the challenges of urban greening: Why is it important to build a greener city for the future? What key considerations should be taken into account when greening a city?
