The Constitutional Principle of Secularism: A Kaleidoscope of Rules and Values
This event has already taken place!
Misunderstandings and conflicts over the interpretation of the principle of secularism have been mounting for decades. The very contours of this principle are becoming increasingly blurred. To cut through the confusion, Gwénaële Calvès suggests returning to the law: what does it say about secularism? What resources does it offer to help us approach the issues at stake in our contemporary debates on freedom, equality, and “living together” with greater clarity?

Gwénaële Calvès is a professor of public law at the University of Cergy-Pontoise. Her work focuses on antidiscrimination law, freedom of expression, and secularism. Her publications include *Territoires disputés de la laïcité. 44 questions (plus ou moins) épineuses* (PUF, 2018) and *La laïcité* (La Découverte, 2022).
