Meteorites: Messengers from the Sun
This event has already taken place!
By Pierre Grech, CNRS Engineer (retired).
For a long time, meteorites were considered divine manifestations—magical stones that were sometimes worshipped. The Gauls feared that the sky would fall on their heads. Until the 18th century, scientists struggled to identify the extraterrestrial origin of these objects, which were often called “lightning stones” or “thunder stones” on every continent.
Meteorites help us understand how the Earth was formed.
Conference organized byARUM ( Association of Retirees of the University of Montpellier).
