Otters on the Lez: understanding biodiversity in the city
Otters are quietly returning to the Lez River. The presence of this species speaks volumes about the state of the Lez and biodiversity in the city. Combining signs of their presence, camera traps, and environmental DNA, this conference explores their habits, movements, and what the return of the species reveals about the evolution of the river. An accessible way to discover the nature that flows through Montpellier every day, hidden beneath the surface of a busy river.

By Olivier Gimenez, CNRS research director, CEFE Montpellier. Expert in ecology, population dynamics, and statistical modeling applied to biodiversity. He studies wild and urban species to better understand ecosystems.
