Montpellier Global Days 2026: Food, People, Planet
First established in 1935 alongside the AOC designations, food quality labels have expanded far beyond the wine industry and French borders to become a cornerstone of sustainable food systems, highlighting local terroirs, expertise, traceability, and nutritional quality. They are based on long-term commitments to people and the land.

The University of Montpellier and its partners in the I-SITE Program of Excellence are organizing an international day of scientific exchange to highlight committed stakeholders, strengthen international cooperation, and reflect on the role of quality labels in addressing environmental, climate, and nutritional challenges. Discussions will focus in particular on four flagship sectors (wine, shellfish farming, rice, andcoffee), with the participation of researchers, field practitioners, and doctoral students. Speakers from Japan, Thailand, Costa Rica, the U.S., South Africa, Canada, and other countries are expected to attend…
The scientific event will take place on June 24, 2026, at the University of Montpellier, at the University’s Institute of Botany, just a stone’s throw from the Montpellier Botanical Garden. It will bring together the scientific community, institutions, international partners, and local stakeholders.
An opening event will be held on June 23, 2026, bringing together local producers and prominent figures for tastings and presentations aimed at a wider audience. It will help strengthen the connection between science, the local region, and society.
