Montpellier Global Days 2026: Food, People, Planet

  • Category: International Day of Scientific Exchange
  • Dates: June 23–24, 2026
  • Location: Montpellier Institute of Botany and Jardin des Plantes

Created in 1935 alongside the AOC designations, food quality labels have expanded far beyond viticulture and French borders to become a pillar of sustainable food systems, promoting terroir, expertise, traceability, and nutritional quality. They are based on long-term commitments to people and regions.

The University of Montpellier and its partners in the I-SITE Program of Excellence are organizing an international day of scientific exchange to highlight committed stakeholders, strengthen international cooperation, and reflect on the role of quality labels in addressing environmental, climate, and nutritional challenges. Discussions will focus in particular on four flagship sectors (wine, shellfish farming, rice, and coffee), with the participation of researchers, industry professionals, and doctoral students. Speakers from Japan, Thailand, Costa Rica, the United States, South Africa, Canada, and other countries are expected to attend…

The scientific event will be held on June 24, 2026, at the University of Montpellier, on the grounds of its Institute of Botany, just a stone’s throw from the Montpellier Botanical Garden. It will bring together the scientific community, institutions, international partners, and local stakeholders.

An opening event will be held on June 23, 2026, bringing together local producers and prominent figures for tastings and presentations aimed at a wider audience. It will help strengthen the connection between science, the region, and society.
