Montpellier Global Days 2026: Food, People, Planet
This event has already taken place!
Created in 1935 alongside the AOC designations, food quality labels have expanded far beyond viticulture and France’s borders to become a pillar of sustainable food systems, highlighting terroirs, expertise, traceability, and nutritional quality. They are based on long-term commitments to people and regions.

The University of Montpellier and its partners in the I-SITE Program of Excellence are organizing an international day of scientific exchange to highlight committed stakeholders, strengthen international cooperation, and reflect on the role of quality labels in addressing environmental, climate, and nutritional challenges. Discussions will focus in particular on four flagship sectors (wine, shellfish farming, rice, andcoffee), with the participation of researchers, industry professionals, and doctoral students. Speakers from Japan, Thailand, Costa Rica, the U.S., South Africa, Canada, and other countries are expected to attend…
The scientific event will take place on June 24, 2026, at the University of Montpellier, on the grounds of its Institute of Botany, just a stone’s throw from the Montpellier Botanical Garden. It will bring together the scientific community, institutions, international partners, and local stakeholders.
An opening event will be held on June 23, 2026, bringing together local producers and prominent figures for tastings and presentations aimed at a broader audience. It will help strengthen the connection between science, the region, and society.
