“Where does quantum physics hide in our daily lives?”

  • Category: Science Bar
  • Dates: February 16, 2023
  • Schedule: From 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Location: Brasserie Le Dôme - 2 Avenue Georges Clémenceau, Montpellier

Quantum physics is a body of physical theories that seek to explain the behavior of atoms and particles. This major scientific revolution, which emerged in the early 20th century, has paved the way for the development of modern technologies while profoundly changing the way we view the world.

When we think of quantum physics, we generally think of the infinitely small. However, it now influences every aspect of our lives, finding its way into many of the devices and objects we use every day: smartphones, computers, GPS, MRI machines, lasers…

To discuss this topic at the intersection of science and society, three multidisciplinary experts will answer questions from the audience live:

  • Guillaume Cassabois, Professor the University of Montpellier. His research at the Charles Coulomb Laboratory focuses on semiconductors and their applications in optics and quantum technologies.
  • Anaïs Dréau, a research fellow at the CNRS. She studies fluorescent artificial atoms in diamond and silicon to explore potential applications, such as the creation of quantum networks.
  • Vincent Jacques, research director at the CNRS. His research focuses on the study of elementary quantum systems for the development of highly sensitive sensors.
