  • Category: Exhibition and conference
  • Dates : June 3 to 10, 2023
  • Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 12pm to 6pm
  • Location: Orangerie du Jardin des Plantes - Boulevard Henri IV, 34000 Montpellier

To mark the Rendez-vous aux jardins, a national event organized by the French Ministry of Culture, the Jardin des Plantes of the University of Montpellier has invited the botanical garden of Padua to host an exhibition at the Orangerie, designed in collaboration with the Association des Amis du Jardin des Plantes.

The world's first botanical garden was created in Padua in 1545; it is at the origin of botanical gardens in Europe and represents the birth of botanical science, scientific exchange and understanding of the relationship between nature and culture. Today, as in the past, it continues to inspire scientific research. In 1997, it was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

The exhibition will provide a forum for dialogue between these two historic botanical gardens, and will introduce the general public to the diversity of their roles, both scientific and cultural.

The exhibition will be preceded by a lecture by Prof. Tomas Morosinotto, prefetto del Orto Botanico dell'Università di Padova: "Le Jardin Botanique de l'Université de Padoue. Study, conservation and communication of biodiversity", on Friday June 2 at 5:30 pm, in the auditorium of the Fabre Museum.
