A Glance at Saltics

The fear of spiders is often linked to a lack of knowledge and awareness. Among spiders, the jumping spider family (Salticidae) has a different appearance and behavior from most other spiders, which makes them particularly endearing. In France, there are 139 species of jumping spiders; they can be found in all kinds of environments, from your bedroom to mountain peaks, beaches, and marshes… They measure only a few millimeters—up to a centimeter for the largest ones—and possess many characteristics that make them unique. These spiders are therefore ideal ambassadors for raising awareness.

A nature lover since childhood, I have been traveling throughout France for the past four years to discover and photograph these fascinating yet little-known spiders.
That is why this photo exhibition offers an opportunity to share these findings and showcase the diversity of this spider family—and to show that not all spiders look like the stereotypes portrayed in movies.
This photo exhibition consists of 16 photographs with their respective captions, as well as an explanatory scientific poster.
This project is organized by the Artio association, supported by GNaUM, and funded by the FSDIE and the Cultural Services Department of the University of Montpellier.
