From March 22 to 24, 2023, the United Nations will be gathering in New York to take stock of the international community's actions and the efforts that need to be pursued. The last UN conference on these issues was held in 1977.

Montpellier and the UNESCO ICIREWARD International Center are taking up these issues with a unique program for the "From New York to Montpellier, all mobilized for sustainable water" day:

  • an awareness-raising day for schoolchildren at the Corum, Palais des Congrès, to help the younger generation face the challenges ahead (registration closed).
  • a conference for the general public entitled "Water resources: it's getting complicated!" to provide the keys to understanding the major issues at stake, with an eclectic panel of scientific specialists, elected representatives and managers:

"Last summer showed us the importance and vulnerability of our water resources. What are the issues and major challenges ahead? What are the constraints and levers for action? An eclectic panel of scientists, elected representatives, managers and users will address issues related to water resources (their evolution, accessibility, quality) and their thorny sharing. Particular emphasis will be placed on the need to regenerate dialogue between all players in the field around issues that are crucial to each of them. "
