Over the past 20 years, the development of the Internet has been accompanied by the assertion of the dominant role of a small number of players who appear to control, if not hinder, the ongoing process of innovation that accompanies the digital transformation of our economies and societies. While these platforms have a strong case to make for their success with the public and their usefulness in facilitating market access for many companies, their accelerated development raises a number of questions:

What's new in the dominant positions of the major platforms? Why is regulation necessary? What are the regulator's options (ex ante/ex post intervention, acquisition control, dismantling, interoperability obligations, algorithm transparency, etc.)? What are the links between capturing and exploiting data, abuse of a dominant position, respect for privacy, the fight against fake news, etc.? How are these issues debated on both sides of the Atlantic, and do they resonate in China?
