Action #1 I Am Rosa Parks is the first installment in a series of four shows titled Action(s) and conceived by Fanny Rudelle and Vanessa Liautey.
“I am Rosa Parks…” Fanny Rudelle, a white woman born 20 years after the Montgomery bus incident, begins with these words.
She wears this symbol as a defiant gesture toward history, as a way of saying that we can all fight against injustice and that it is not the exclusive right of one people over another.
To discriminate is to separate. Today, we stand together in this fight against racial discrimination. She tells us how the shift took place—from anonymity to symbolism—and what changed her forever and altered the course of history: that famous night on that bus on Cleveland Avenue, on December 1, 1955. “Everyone should live their life as a role model for others,” Rosa Parks tells us. We can all be like Rosa Parks.
