Science at UM is back for a fourth season!

This is the show that keeps you up to date every week on the latest news from the laboratories at the University of Montpellier and its partners. Co-produced with the local radio station Divergence FM, *A l’UM la science* is now in its fourth season. As always, the program features a 20-minute interview with a researcher about a recent publication, a report on one of the many research platforms, and a spotlight on a science event for the general public. Hosted by Lucie Lecherbonnier and Aline Périault, the show airs every Wednesday at 6 p.m. on Divergence and is available as a podcast on UM’s platforms every Thursday.

Every year, more than 6,000 scientific publications come out of the laboratories at the University of Montpellier and its partners. Every week, UM and local radio station Divergence FM invite you to discover one recently published paper, explained by its author(s). From economics to ecology, biology to robotics, law to chemistry, and everything in between—including medicine, education, and mechanics—researchers take turns on the air for a 20-minute interview aimed at the general public.

What is the environmental and social impact of mining operations related to the green transition? How can we improve the performance of Paralympic athletes or prevent burnout among mayors in France? What kinds of food do students have access to, and how is the monkeypox virus transmitted? These are just a few of the questions posed on the show *A l’UM la science* since the start of the school year in September.

In the second half of the program, a 5-minute segment takes you behind the scenes at the many research facilities of the University of Montpellier and its partners. From the atomic force microscope to the marine station in Sète and the battery testing lab at the Balard Chemistry Cluster, you’ll be amazed by the diversity of cutting-edge equipment available in the region.

Finally, the guest featured in the last three minutes extends the scientific experience by announcing an event open to the general public in Montpellier or the surrounding area.

A program produced and hosted by Lucie Lecherbonnier and Aline Périault.

The show airs weekly on Divergence FM on Wednesdays at 6 p.m., Thursdays at noon, and Saturdays at 6 p.m.
Episodes are available as podcasts every Thursday on the Divergence FM website, the University of Montpellier website, and all podcast platforms.
